  1. I would define an "American Teenager" as a young individual who experiments more than the average person, yet is the most timid about trying new things. An American Teenager may be rebelious or become more confident with age. True friends are usually hard to find when you're a teenager because most individuals are selfish and immature at this point. These are all stero-types of the "American Teenager."

  2. I would say that an "American teenager" in todays world would be a person walking down the street with ipod ear buds in and texting a bunch of people. Alot of people think that the american teenager of today are trouble makers and misfits but thats the elderly people. An american teenager is just a person who wants to have fun.

  3. The "American Teenager" is some one who wants to be themselfs and new person. When I think of an "American Teenager" I think of everyone I go to school with. All different but the same in many ways. They want to fit in some where but they don't know where. They worry about the little things more than the big things. Their not quite sure what they want to do with there life's yet. Thats what I think when I hear "American Teenager."

  4. An "American Teenager" is someone who has a ton of opportunities for them but is most often too distracted to really care. The classic adult description of a teen would be someone who is always texting or listening to music, rebellious, or going to parties. Teens don't always think about the fact that what they do now lays out their future.

  5. I think that the "American Teenager" is a sterotype teenager from the US. Every city has a different stereotype so he/she could be anyone from a teen in 90210, a kid from the slums of Detroit, a down-home southern boy working on a farm in his overalls and muddy boots, or a college kid going to Harvard for a law degree. I guess it depends on where in the country you live.

  6. I think that the "American Teenager" is someone who lstends to music too loud, & is always talking and texting friends. Most older people view teenagers as trouble makers who drink, smoke, do drugs and go to parties. An american teenager has many different stereotypes from different age groups. An "American Teenager" just wants to have fun!

  7. An American Teenager is a young person that works hard at being unique so they can fit in with every other "unique" individual. Some work really hard to be "rebellious" so they can prove some sort of point, although they usually don't know what they're proving. Sterotypically, teenagers are loud, rude, and immature, however, not all fit this description. They may be instead very adult and responsible, but personalities are shaped by lifestyles, families, and friends.

  8. These days an "American teen" is someone that has a job at 13 or 14, someone that is depending on themselves. American teens are more dissatisfied with their home life, family and friends. I picture a teenager not caring about homework/school and only caring about their social life.

  9. When someone speaks of the American Teenager, different images come to mind. Over time, the ideal image of a teenager has dramatically changed corresponding with the times. In the 80's the normal American Teenager was put into a visual as The Breakfast Club, a group that didn't care to much for school and rebelled. 90210 was the next decades' American Teens, acting carefree and thinking friends were the most important. Today we visualize the American Teenager as someone who blasts music, and does whatever they feel.

  10. I believe that the image of the American teenager has drastically changed over the past 80 years. 80 years ago, the image of the American teenager was of a well behaved, well dressed, kid that obeyed the rules set down by there parents and there church. The modern image of the American teenager is of a drug using teen with green and purple hair, no respect for there parents or socially acceptable religious institution, and a lack of motivation to follow the established path to success.

  11. Well to most people it is the "popular" people at school or the one who wears all the fancy cloths but to me its a hard working, self motivated person who succeeds in life. They also have to be them selves and not try to fit the image of others to try to fit in just be them selves. Lastly they have to live their life how they want not how others want them to.

  12. The American Teenager can be perceived in many ways. Many people view teens in America as rebellious and near-sighted. Also, that they put other people's thoughts of them above all else and cast away their own values to "fit in." At that time in many teenager's lives they are more independant and are introduced to more of a social life than ever before.

  13. The American Teenager is and always will be a mystery. There are many views and thoughts about teens that live in America. Many people see teens as energenic, daring, and sometimes confused. The teen will decide their own future and how they want to live. Although many expectations are not met, a teen will still dream and yearn for a goal they have set to accomplish.

  14. American Teenagers are people who are unsure about many things. They are unsure about how much to fit in, what they want to do in the future, how to handle relationships and ending relationships, and just what their dreams are and how to follow them. Sometimes the American Teenager is seen as being lazy or even annoying, but I think the American Teenager is someone who wants to have a good time in life, but maybe hasn't figured out a lot of things in their life yet. This can make it seem like they are too lazy to do their work, when some of them are really just so unsure of their lives that they don't know how to do it yet.

  15. In my opinion the American Teenager is someone that seems to take their lives and opurtunities for granted. When picturing an american teenager i percieve a person that applies themselves in areas they are strong at and usually backs off when a task seems to become too difficult, especially within the schooling system. For example some athletes find it quite difficult to transfer the work ethic they posses in a sport to school work because perhaps they arent strong in that subject or maybe they just dont understand the question. At the end of the day it seems to me that the average American Teenager is throwing the oppurtunities given upon them away and when sometimes many teenagers have forgotten if you want something, then you have to be willing to sacrifice and go get it.

  16. I'm italian, but I am a teenager too! When I heard "American Teenagers" from my real life, from the tv, I think that an american boy or girl is equal to an italian one. There are many types of people with their ways of thinking, with their opinion and preference and these "elements" show you their character, their way to introduce themselves in the comunity. Most of them are afraid to be old while they are happy to have more freedom! I believe that American Teenagers are the same of European Teenagers because we see the world with children's eyes that are almost old!

  17. The American Teenager is mostly characterized as a young adult who cares mostly about themselves. An American Teenager may also have values about different things even though they do not show it in order to fit in with everyone else. Many teenagers are confused at this point in there life. Even though they are not sure about themselves they have great passion for what it really important in there lives.

  18. An American Teenager is someone who has "gained" low expectations among society. Many people don't expect the American Teen to do much but slack off and bum around town. On the otherhand, the American Teen is mostly hard working and volunteering. The American Teen stands for what he/she believes in. Has passions. Has desires. Has hobbies. The American Teen also does work hard. Has dreams. Has career goals. And sometimes doesnt. The American Teen (or any other teen for that matter) is the future of this world today.

  19. When I hear the term: "American Teenager" I think of someone with many different ways to succeed in life, and at the same time screw it up. If this person is the type of person that wants to screw off all the time and get nothing out of their life, I say let them. While at the same time I believe that the "true" American Teenager is someone that puts as much work and energy into their life as they can, in order to get the most out of it.

  20. Can you really define the "American Teenager"? There is not a simple right wrong answer for this. For one person it could be a person involved in school. Yet to another it could be someone who expresses themself. Some one from another country would base their opinion off of the many stereotypes of Americans. My version would just have to be expressing yourself: taking how you talk, walking how you walk. If you are an American teen that likes sports then be it. If you like poetry then like it. If you like videogames then like videogames. Most of all, don't be afraid to show it.

  21. When the term "American Teenager" is stated, many people think of the generalized snobbish and selfish teen. In my opinion, an "American Teenager" is a teenager who isn't afraid to try new things, and be spontaneous with their decisions. The average American Teen, like other teens learn through their mistakes. Many teens from America are also seen as carefree kids that are just looking for a good time.

  22. When someone talks about the “American Teenager” different ideas come to mind. Over the years that image has changed. Back in the 50’s it was the perfect teenager who made the grades and had all the friends. As the years progressed the teenager was a rebellious figure in society and stood up for strangers and what they believe. As the years went on the angst of teenagers was dramatically increased during the Breakfast Club era. Now teenagers are visualized as the “lazy generation”. The generation that doesn’t care and does whatever they want. So, in twenty years that visual will change again depending on how society views the next generations.

  23. When I think of an American teenager of the past, I think of a hardworking individual that utilizes there freedom and likes to explore and discover things on there own, but within the last 10 years I would say the American teenager utilizes there freedom by exploring video games and discovering fun sites on the internet.

  24. I think that the "american teenager" is a kid texting his friends and listening to his ipod. And kids used to work harder and care more but now they are more reckless and dont care as much.

  25. The idea of the "American Teenager" has changed over the past years. I think technology has had an effect on how teenagers are perceived. Now days most teenagers have a computer, Ipod, and cell phone within access. All the technology has caused "American Teengers" to have a generally bad rep because of how it makes things easier. Kids are generally known to be lazy, selfish, unappreciative, and only see life as an opportunity to just go out and have fun. On the flip side teenagers now days are more open-minded and not afraid to be their own person.
